Say Hello to My Little Friend...
Remember the Praying Mantis I caught last summer? She laid eggs while we had her, and I was fortunate enough to catch them hatching and fed them before they starved to death. Of the hundreds that emerged, only about 10 or so managed to survive (due to cannabalism, underfeeding, etc).
Here's the second largest one:

Hopefully I can keep her around long enough to do some high speed photography of her catching and eating a blowfly, because it's something I think everybody should see.

Gorgeous shot! Lit with flash? What lens?
A thought - you probably want to be saving these as .jpg, not .gif -- .gif compresses well with large blocks of identical color (like you'll find in animation or vector artwork), but very badly with photos.
Nice work!
Thanks for the inside tip about formatting!
This was taken with a 18-55mm lens f/3.5-5.6 (which is all I've got right now), and since I'm still learning the basics, I shot it in AF mode (so yes, there was flash lighting, which you'd expect at 1:30 am :-) ). It was the better of several shots I was testing to see how the various parameters affect the final image.
A bit out of focus in most areas, but not bad for a basic zoom lens.
